Serving Others

The members of First Christian Church are dedicated to serving the physical and spiritual needs of their neighbors across the street and around the world.  Here are a few of the exciting ways First Christian Church is serving others:

The Open Door Food Kitchen

On the first Monday and Tuesday of every month, members of First Christian prepare and serve lunch to 150-200 hungry people at the Open Door Food Kitchen.  FCC has financially supported the Open Door since it began, just as FCC members have served meals and served on its board over the years.

Royal Family Kids Camp

For the last fifteen years, First Christian Church has run a week-long camp for abused and neglected children in our community.  The activities of the week are designed to demonstrate to each participating child that he or she is a person of worth and loved by God.  First Christian’s camp is a part of a network of Royal Family Kids Camps throughout the country and the world.

Faith in Action

Faith in Action is an organization made up of St. Joseph churches and other organizations that are working to meet the unmet needs of people in our community. First Christian is proud to be a part of Faith in Action. We are helping with transportation for people who do not otherwise have it. These trips are for medical treatment, doctor visits or essential shopping.

Food Collection

Every Sunday morning, church members bring donations of non-perishable food items and canned goods.  The children of our church collect the food items and bring them forward to the altar before the children’s sermon.  The food we collect goes to Interserv, an interdenominational ministry serving people in need in St. Joseph.  In addition to the weekly collection of food, each winter we participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring and make a special effort to bring in more food and cash donations that also go to Interserv.

Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF)

Each month, the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF) of First Christian Church provides financial and/or material contributions to local, national and international agencies and ministries, such as: Church World Service Tools of Hope/Blankets of Hope program, Juda House and St. Joseph Haven homeless shelters, Salvation Army coat drives and more.

C.R.O.P. Walk

Each year, church members participate in the St. Joseph C.R.O.P. Walk.  C.R.O.P. stands for “Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.”  Each walk raises money for the work of Church World Service and local ministries.

M.S. 150

Each summer, FCC members raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society by cycling 150 miles in the annual Kansas City M.S. 150 Bike Tour.
